I first want to apologize to my sponsors here on tidbits as I have been very busy this week and still am not caught up. Thus I can't focus on a couple of you this week but will make up for it next week.
While I am getting things ready for this weekends NCRA action in the State of Kansas - from one end of the state to another - here is a quicky.
Caught no racing last Friday night as I was looking forward to watching the WoO sprints from Charlotte on Speed. However, rain ppd that until Saturday night but I wasn't sticking around the house two nights in a row so I headed to Lake Country Speedway in Ardmore on Saturday night for their former called Paul Marc Memorial. While the car counts were down in all divisions the racing was still great as it always is at LCS. Met new promoter Cameron Wilson and he seems like he really is trying to keep that place open. I am hearing the different tire and other modified rules are keeping some modified drivers away.
Don't forget that the NCRA modified south will be at LCS in late July.
Then on Sunday night I wanted a change so I went to Grayson County Speedway in Sherman (Bells) Texas. - - I got lost. Luckily down the back roads I passed a modified going the other way so I whipped around and followed him through the backwoods and to the track. While the facility is old and not much, I could tell the track would be really racey and sure enough it was for all five divisions of their IMCA sanctioned cars. I think during feature time there was only six cautions for all five divisions total with the racing really, really good. The IMCA modified feature was one of the best I seen on the year with three cars battling all 25 laps with former LCS promoter Ronny Gould taking the victory.
I want to say it was my pleasure seeing and a nice surprise having former LCS flagman Charlie and Gould himself making their way from the track to sit and talk to me before and with Gould, even during racing action. They are really great people and Gould is another one of those "promoters" who does promote a great racing show.
I also got to talk to promoter Greg Cooper as he to came up and talked with me and was telling me the changes that have been made to the track and what the track once was not all that long ago.
I will be back to Grayson County Speedway again I am sure of that.
Then on Monday night it was north on I-35 to 81 Speedway in Wichita to cover the NCRA sprint car show that was a good one and won by Jason Johnson. Being done at 9:45 PM gave me enough time to get home, work on the story, shower and then head to work at 4:00 AM. Still recovering from that one.
As you have read on the tidbits message board, Dodge City and Liberal Speedway promoter Ed Beckley will be promoting racing at the Enid Fairgrounds at least once a month. Look for more updates on my message board as soon as things calm down for him as he and Dodge City Raceway Park readies for the WoO sprinters next Friday and Saturday night, June 11-12th.
Lots of stuff happening for all you different types of race fan:
While the Lucas Oil ASCS national tours race at Outlaw Motor Speedway for tonight has been ppd until later date due to a sponsor backing out, the series will be at Tracey Clays I-30 Speedway in Little Rock. If that isn't enough for you ASCS and sprint car lovers the ASCS Sooner Region will be at Lawton Speedway on Saturday night.
I want to thank Lonnie Wheatley for emailing victory lane photos from this past Monday nights NCRA sprint car show at 81 Speedway that was won by Jason Johnson.
The USMTS guys will be at Humboldt Speedway in Kansas tonight (Friday) before headintg to Springfield Speedway in Missouri on Saturday night.
Don't forget to head to Elk Citys I-40 Speedway tonight for the Gene Cantrell benefit race. See funn's post on the message board and please support this deal one way or another for Gene - he is a racer you know.
Not to conflict with the NCRA modified south race at Elk City next Friday night, Wild West Speedway in Clinton has pushed their date to begin Friday night racing on June 18th. Thank you staff at Wild West Speedway.
To close here is what tidbits will be doing this weekend.
Am trying to get things done and on the road asap as I am heading to Jetmore, Kansas and the first night of the $10,000 to win late model show featuring NCRA, MARS and CLMA. This is a NCRA event so will be posting the story after it is done. Then it is five hours to the northeast and Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta, Kansas for the NCRA sprint car show, the first there since 2002 when the NCRA ran the 410 outlaw sprints. Aaron Berryhill won that event and is expected for this show as he is following NCRA and the championship this season, his last as a driver as he is retiring for good at the end of the year. He is looking at putting a young gun in his sprint car next year and becoming a promoter.
All for this tidbits update. Please keep my message board updated with news, race recaps and results so myself and all others can view.
Take care and have a safe weekend wont you!?!?
