Not counting this weekends Wild West Speedway Winter Nationals in Clinton and the November Sprint Shootout at Cowtown Speedway, alot of racers are slowing taking apart their race cars, replacing with new parts and getting ready to buy for the 2011 race season. There are alot of race parts stores throughout Oklahoma and surrounding states so please do business with those who advertise here:

A relationship terminted after 13 years: There are several people who already know so might as well make it public here on tidbits. After 13 years as the major sponsor for the Wichita, Kansas based National Championship Racing Association, O'Reilly Auto Parts will not be renewing their contract for the 2011 race season. The longest sponsor in series history sites going the "grass roots" route of weekly racing as their focus but a person involved with another major racing series, who lost O'Reilly Auto Parts a couple of years ago thinks -as do I - it is to cater to NASCAR and to receive those luxary suites. This makes the powers to be at the Wichita, Kansas series office looking for sponsorship. If you are interested, contact them at (316) 755-1781.
Many who grew up NCRA will agree that probably their most popular and best sponsorship was Chattanooga Chew back in the late 80's.
While no official press release has been released as of yet, there will be a rule change for the modified south division for 2011 which I feel is a great move. Grooving of tires will be allowed as will the Schrader Valves.
Don't look for the third annual "Showdown in the Heartland" featuring the NCRA and MARS Dirt Car series to make their annual appearance together at Brill Motor Speedway in 2011. However, the MARS Dirt Car series will compete at Brills in 2011 but not with NCRA. Stay tuned for the date as it has yet to be announced.
The third annual "Showdown in the Heartland" between the two series will again be at 81 Speedway and Monett Speedway as well as a new venue, Humbolt Speedway in Kansas with another track TBA.
While only 21 sprinters show up last Saturday night for the ASCS Sooner region finale at Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee, it was still a good night of racing with a great crowd on hand to see Sean McClelland seal his second series championship with his third feature victory of the season. Defending series champion Joe Wood, Jr. finished 157 points behind for the runner up spot.
Michelle Decker was another former OKC sprint car regular to hit the road and finish in the top ten in a series point standings as her first time traveling with the Sooenr region netted her a seventh place finish in the point standings. Not definate of the date but am told there will be a banquet this year and will be held at the Hard Rock Casino in Tulsa.
The other OKC female sprint car driver to finish in the top ten in final point standings was Shayla Waddell with OCRS and she finished - you guessed it - seventh in points.
After a couple of years where it has been touch and go, Lake Country Speedway in Ardmore is set for full time racing action once again in 2011. Track owner Virgil Page will continue as owners as his two sons will take over the duties of promotion. Shane "p'nut" Moss will be back as race steward as well.
The Salina Highbanks Speedway in Salina, Oklahoma will be back in action for 2011 with the WoO sprint cars making their first ever appearance at the big three-eighths mile high banked oval on Friday and Saturday night, April 22-23, 2011. The track will run weekly on Saturday nights and will be running the IMCA type southern sport modifieds as well, working with Thunderbird Speedway as that track also runs the southern sport mods.
Thunderbird Speedway will be running on their traditional Friday nights in 2011 with a big MARS two day show in April, an SMP speedweek show and several other specials already inked.
I understand last night (Tuesday) was the deadline for people to send in their proposals to promote Elk Citys I-40 Speedway for 2011 with the only known bid being submitted coming from current new Wild West Speedway (Clinton) owner and promoter Dee Dee Sites. As soon as I get more information I will pass it along.
Don't forget this weekends annual Wild West Speedway Winter Nationals takes place on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon with a $1000 to the feature finale winner in both the modifieds and sport mods. For more information, click on the tracks banner as I don't have a special race banner at this time.
The scheduled Octoberfast $5000 to win Stock Car Nationals scheduled for Outlaw Motor Speedway in Oktaha has been cancelled and will not be run in 2011. Taking its place this Saturday night will be a $1000 to win Enduro. Click on the race banner for more details.
Word has it a Oklahoma track promoter told Hicks his track wasn't making money and that he thought the proposed new track Hicks was to build out on I-40 and County Line Road would be a mistake thus, as of now, all plans have been scratched. This was a done deal with over one million dollars ready to be spent.
Ed Beckley, who busted butt from his regular Saturday night Dodge City Raceway Park promotion too his Sunday special events at Enid Speedway, has announced he will not be back at Dodge City Raceway Park in 2011 and will run Enid on selected Sundays. As of now this leaves Dodge Citys beautiful facility without a promoter for 2011 but several bids to become promoter and to hold special only events were sent in by Tuesdays deadline.
Internet is a good thing: While there are those who can't make those out of state trips for one reason or another, it is good to see tracks letting live audio and sometimes video shown on the internet. Listening too last weekends Las Cruces $10,000 to win modified show gave this writer something to do racing wise and while chatting on a websites message board, I wasn't the only "Okie" tuning in as Buddy Honacker, CA Nix, Jeremy Gossett (okay west Texas), Randy Thomas and a couple more were seen taking part in the chat.
There will be live video feed available this weekend for the big Las Vegas IMCA type modified event, which I believe begins Thursday night. Click here http://www.speedwaychannel.com for more information...
Check out the press release page for the four dates for the Greg Deatherage promoted tradw shows and swap meets. This year will kick off in Wichita Falls Texas in December, followed by the annual OKC event and the Wichita, Kansas in January with a new venue scheduled for Little Rock, Arkansas in February.
Mondays deadline saw me send in my 2010 year end National Sprint Car Hall of Fame ballot with me voting Jason Johnson as sprint car team of 2010 while Brady Bacon got my wild card vote.
Don't forget this Friday and Saturday night is the November Sprint Shootout at Cowtown Speedway in Kennedale, Texas. Right now the weather has me home on Friday night but a Saturday night outting is now out of the question.
Make sure you keep checking the schedule/results page for 2011 special race dates as it is being updated almost every other day.
